Students should be aware that the costs of studying in Australia will depend on your education provider, the level of study you choose and your study location in Australia.

Accommodation

  • Hostels and Guesthouses – $90 to $150 per week
  • Shared Rental – $95 to $215 per week
  • On campus – $110 to $280 per week
  • Homestay – $235 to $325 per week
  • Rental – $185 to $440 per week
  • Boarding schools – $11,000 to $22,000 a year

Other living expenses

  • Groceries and eating out – $140 to $280 per week
  • Gas, electricity – $10 to $20 per week
  • Phone and Internet – $15 to $30 per week
  • Public transport – $30 to $60 per week
  • Car (after purchase) – $150 to $260 per week
  • Entertainment – $80 to $150 per week

Cost of living

Our Learning support staff will assist students with their varying needs, taking into consideration their diverse backgrounds, abilities, and preferences. We are also happy to help international students who may be experiencing difficulties related to language barriers, learning difficulties, and social and behavioral needs.

Here are some off-campus accommodation options including homestays, commercial and private rentals, shared accommodation, and furnished apartments.

Homestay

Live with a Canberra host family.  This is popular among international students as it helps you practice your English and gives you extra support on your arrival in a foreign city. You can stay for your first 2–4 weeks with an option to extend if you wish.

 

 

Renting, Sharing, and other options:

International students undertaking formal studies in Australia must obtain an adequate health insurance known as the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire duration of their visa to cover for them and their family members during they stay in Australia. Having an Australian bank account will ensure that you have easy access to your money to pay for your accommodation, tuition fees and living expenses, and will allow your employer to deposit pay into your account if you choose to work.
